Okay screw you tumblr, I had an almost completed draft you just decided to f*ck me out of for no reason. I hope you die in a fire.
So it’s been a month since I started living here, and I think I can do that update thing.
Despite being told we’d feel this way, all of us in the Study Abroad CIEE Advanced Liberal Arts program (wow that’s a lot to write out, much less say. Note to self: come up with name for group) are kind of caught between two worlds. We’re not really at home here. Really that’s all there really is to say. We have no solid base. We’re all friends, but it’s one thing to be united by a common experience and completely different to be able to ask someone to support you through any and all emotional turmoil. So yeah, we’re dealing with that. Some of us have it easier than others (like me; I wouldn’t go back to the states before I have to if I were given a solid gold guitar) but even though the others have family/significant others/pets they miss dearly, we’re mostly all in similar places (as in, none of us are being given solid gold guitars).
Another relatively new experience for the lot of us is being busy. Believe it or not, we have to do real life things over here and be real-life people. Like really. We’re all taking full course loads at a 400-level equivalent and completely in spanish, nonetheless. In my experience, all my professors are very kind (or at least they’re entertaining) and the transition hasn’t been that difficult, though I find myself thinking in Spanish when I need English and vice-versa, which sounds great until you’re struggling to find your words and the person you’re talking to is confused and it’s become painfully obvious to everyone in a 100-meter radius that you’re a stupid American kid who clearly has no business being in Barcelona and you’re trying to prove that that’s not true but you’re derping so hard that the sheer awkwardness of that moment could fuel the entire production of American Pie 7. (Note to self: write shorter sentences)
So yeah, this is a shorter blog post, but I will hopefully do this kind of thing more often. Currently I just felt the need to update everyone on how Team F*ck Yeah Barcelona! is doing.
*doing the happy dance for coming up with awesome group name*
